4Happy with product
By dnortunen
I purchased this unit about a year and a half ago. I hooked up and plumbed the water lines to it and it was fairly straightforward. I had a certified propane installer run the propane line and pressure test it. It worked fine for about 3 months. Then it stopped working. I tried customer support. They answered the call in about 10 minutes but were unable to diagnose the problem. I talked to several different people and noone was able to help me. Then my wife noticed that when the lights were out in the room and I tried to start it there were sparks in the unit. After taking the hood off and watching I could see that the wires that caused the electric starter to spark were arching between the wires and the frame of the unit. I called Bosch and they sent me new wires and I installed them and was up and running within a 1/2 hour. Since then we have run it for over a year with no problems. I assume that I just got a defective set of wires. Very happy with the product but only gave it 4 stars because of the problem and their inability to diagnose it. The only other problem I have with it is not a problem with Bosch but with on demand water heaters in general. You definitely want to have a shower that has two knobs (both hot and cold) in it instead of one knob that controls both. With one knob if you turn it too cool you it will shut off the water heater and you won't know this until the line is cleared of hot water which can take 30 seconds. Then you turn it back hot and it takes another 30 seconds for the new hot water to get to you. With two knobs you can turn the hot water tap on high (or at least high enough so that there is enough demand to keep the water heater running) and then moderate the temperature with just the cold tap.

2Very Bad Customer Service
By Nate McGuire
I purchased this water heater a couple of years ago. Let me be clear that I am not a plumber and know little about plumbing and electrical. With this being said, apparently my plumber has issues as well. We purchased this to put into a new built home in which we were trying to be energy efficient in any way that couldn't cost an arm and a leg. I have owned many Bosch products to include appliances and tools and have almost no problems with anything. This and the few reviews I could find at the time which weren't so bad led me to purchase this water heater. From the beginning my plumber, who has installed many tankless brands but has little experience with Bosch, had trouble with the water heater. He hooked it up without a problem but had a lot of problems with the water temperature fluctuation and no amount of adjustment on his part got rid of it entirely. He contacted Bosch customer service to help and that was where the problems really started. Over a period of several days we made many calls. The worst one we were on hold for six hours... yes, I said six. And when someone finally started talking to us we were "accidentally" disconnected. This was not the first or last time we were disconnected but after six hours on hold, it was the most painful. Over the several days we made these calls we spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 hours on the phone but only about one actually talking to someone. The crux of the situation is that we were never able to get the adjustment completed no matter what extra tools the plumber used. Even when we tried to get the name of a Bosch installer from Bosch, the closest one was over 50 miles away and the three that were less than 100 miles away all told me over the phone that they didn't sell or normally work on Bosch. Only one of those stated he would try to work on it but that it would cost us due to the milage. The minimum bill to show up and try anything was about the cost of a tank water heater. We chose to deal with it until we could afford a replacement from a company with better customer service. So now we have to leave the water on sometimes for 20 minutes for it to just start to get warm with only about a ten foot water line run. Of course sometimes it comes on immediately. It's bad because it still uses LP to heat the water that isn't heated and makes a very loud noise from time to time that can be heard a half mile away. I am confident that the issues is only an adjustment and then it will work but it should not take so long the get someone on the phone to start with. I am giving it two stars because I know this appliance can work but I would give is a half star for customer service for Bosch if possible. I've never had any issues with anything where you had to stay on the phone for more than an hour just to talk to someone, let along up to six every time you call. I would only recommend this product to someone who is very handy with a good knowledge of installing tankless water heater, then only after I explained the above information.

5Takes some getting used to.....
By Kathleen Larson
This tankless water heater has been great. It took some getting used to, but we love it. We can see a clear savings in our use of propane. It is small and clean and really the best alternative for heating water. We did not get our tax benefit as had been promoted in the advertisement when we purchased it. It was not being offered for the 2008 year. I have heard it is supposed to be in place for 2009. That was one of the reasons we bought this unit over others that were similarly priced. Oh well......I think it is a good move toward using less energy.
