killer machine
By Yegor Podolyak
I aslo have this product installed, although im a licensed plumber and did installation myself but it shouldn't be any different if your unit was installed by a pro. I absolutely love the unit, i have to say that im very picky and hard to please kind of guy and I dont have any of the problems this unit giving to the other guy, preformance is unbelivable to this day i wonder how this little guy seems to keep up with up to 5 running units at the same time. Noise wise its probably as quite as working refriferator if not quiater but dont forget the unit is in the garage so u never ever hear it kick on unless u standing next to it, I hope this review helps,

Wonderful unit, no issues
By JimboPalmer
When I needed to re-purpose a laundry room as a half bath, I needed to get rid of my tank water heater. Following the vent upstairs I mounted the unit in an upstairs bed room. 8 inches recessed into the wall, leaving 3 inches in the room. Now I have unlimited hot water, which it is very easy to change the temperature of. I freed up almost all the room the old water heater used and no one sleeping in the room has been woken up during use. The 4 inch vent uses the same enlarged hole the old 3 inch vent used.

Arrived damaged, Rinnai offers no support
By Chump Stain
My unit arrived dented. The packaging Rinnai uses is absurd for the size and weight of the heater. The styrofoam they use to brace the unit was pulverized and even though the box looked fine there is a huge dent in lower front corner. A quick read of other Rinnai reviews tells me this is fairly common. I've worked in shipping for over 7 years so I have a reasonable understanding of packaging and shipping. I'm surprised any of these heaters make it unscathed.Because the install was scheduled for the next morning I decided to let our Rinnai authorized plumber decide if the unit was functional. He determined that the damage was cosmetic and I figured Rinnai would send us a replacement panel so up it went. The heater works great and I'm happy with its performance. The lag time is slightly longer than our old tank unit but it's nothing we won't get used to.My complaint and 1 star disappointment is with Rinnai itself. My wife contacted them for the front panel and the person she spoke with was completely unhelpful. She basically said there is nothing they can do and we need to have Amazon send us the part. Obviously amazon isn't a parts supplier so that doesn't work. Of course Amazon is awesome (as usual) and offered a partial refund or to send us a new unit. Unfortunately, that doesn't quite work since the unit is installed and we just want the front panel. I also have doubts that a replacement unit would arrive undamaged considering the weak packaging. The packaging is also the type that comes strapped together. Once you cut those straps you will not be able to get it back together and without new straps tape isn't going to hold anything in.How hard would it be for Rinnai to stand behind their product and send us a new front panel? It's very disappointing considering the cost of this unit. I'll keep working on them and if they change their story of "we can't help you" I will update my review.Update 06-07-12I sent Rinnai a lengthy e-mail and the response from them is that they do not authorize any sale of their water heaters online. I won't even go in to the fact that the letter had numerous spelling mistakes and was written in broken english. You must buy from a local installer. They simply will not help you if you decide to purchase online which for me was a significant savings over what the local installers wanted to charge for the heater. Also you need to have an authorized installer put in the unit which luckily I did. With the refund from Amazon I purchased the 55.00 part through my installer and will attach it myself. For me it was absurd to send the entire unit back for a cosmetic part that they could have easily sent me. Way to go Rinnai, great heater (so far) but lame customer service. I shudder to think about what happens if this thing fails under warranty and I need to contact them again. I'm wondering if because I bought it here that Rinnai will refuse to honor the warranty. Buyer Beware.
